Mega Man Legends successor now publisher funded, PS4 and Xbox One ports confirmed

Mega Man Legends spiritual successor Red Ash has received a nice cash injection, ensuring it can come to market even if its Kickstarter falls over.

Red Ash has been fully funded by Chinese publisher Fuze Entertainment, Comcept has announced. Comcept will retain all rights to Red Ash, and maintain creative control over The KalKanon Incident.

Thanks to the publishing deal, Red Ash: The KalKanon Incident will be released on both PS4 and Xbox One in addition to PC.

The developer has elected to continue crowdfunding via its Kickstarter, with collected funds channelled into adding extra content to the project.

"Consider your pledge a contribution to stretch goals from here on out," Comcept said. "Exactly what are those stretch goals? We're sorry to say that will have to wait a little while longer.

"We're very busy with many behind-the-scenes things over here, and we apologize if you feel left in the dark. As you can see, the things we have brewing that are keeping us occupied are big, and all for the purpose of getting you Red ASH in its biggest, bestest form. That's the reason we're less communicative than we'd like to be."

Comcept asked backers to continue their support of the project, and noted that it was only thanks to their vocal support that the team was able to secure funding from Fuze.

At time of writing the Red Ash Kickstarter is still more than $300,000 shy of its $800,000 with just four days to go. It's possible the news that the project is going ahead no matter what will attract more backers willing to pledge ahead of time.

It's also possible some existing backers will be put off by the news, although I must say it's refreshing to see a developer be so open about how crowdfunding is being utilised alongside other lines of finance.

A playable Red Ash prototype was released yesterday.
