Find out what the fuss is about during Crusader Kings 2's free weekend

Crusader Kings 2 is free on Steam this weekend, so you've run out of excuses to avoid Paradox's cult favourite strategy effort.

Crusader Kings 2 came out in early 2012 and has been enjoying quiet but devoted passion from its ever-growing fanbase ever since.

Set in the Middle Ages, it's a strategy game where you take control of a dynasty, tracking it through generations. There's no end goal or win state; you just do whatever the heck you want, although trying to become the most prestigious ruling house around is a good general goal.

What makes it so compelling is the twists and turns that greet you; you can organise assassinations, forge alliances through marriage, and go to war, but all your grand plans may come to nought when one of your family members backstabs you, you catch a terrible disease, or your incestuous inbreeding finally brings your family to ruin. Check out these user reviews for more.

Crusader Kings 2 has sold over 1 million copies, which is why Paradox is letting you try it for free. Head over to Steam tomorrow to download the free trial; if you like what you see, the game is currently on sale on Linux, Mac and PC.
