FIFA plays like ping pong, says trash-talking PES dev

FIFA is the undisputed king of football games in terms of sales, but the team behind rival franchise PES naturally thinks its own product is better.

FIFA 15 is going up against PES 2015 this year, and although neither product is int he wild yeat - FIFA 15's release date is in September, while PES 2015 is expected in November - Konami already seems pretty sure it has the better game.

PES European brand manager Adam Bhatti told NowGamer that PES 2015 has better shooting and goalkeepers, and is generally more realistic.

Assistant producer Klaus Garner went further, criticising FIFA's gameplay.

"We have a game that lets you play real football; you can play counter-attacking, possession, long-ball," he said.

"Which you can't do in the other title, where it's more like ping-pong."

More like ping pong. Harsh!

Bhatti went on to say that "FIFA is all about scoring goals", and that EA Canada designs to fulfil the desires of "a lot of people [who[ just want to be able to score goals and have their lobbed-through ball work every time".

I assume the implication is that PES 2015 will require more finesse, although if you visit the full article through the link above you'll see some comments from Bhatti admitting that PES has suffered from its marketing position as a "connoisseur's football game", because it excludes a huge potential audience.

Konami wants PES to provide a different experience to FIFA, and to be more like real world football, apparently. Getting that right while still providing fun is tricky.

Both FIFA 15 and PES 2015 are coming to PC, PlayStation 3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One.
