News of the next PS4 firmware update is coming soon

Monday, 21st July 2014 21:56 GMT By Sherif Saed

Sony has been somewhat lethargic when it comes to releasing system updates for the PlayStation 4. The last update came out in April, that’s long ago, and comes especially in contrast to Microsoft’s monthly approach. There’s hope however, as we’re going to hear news about the next update soon.

According to Fred Dutton, EU PSBlog manager, we are going to be getting news about an upcoming system update for PlayStation 4 “very soon.”

He later added that he’s not sure what sort of details will be released, but urged us to still expect the news.

Thanks, Videogamer.

Audio and video file playback (like PS3) along with custom backgrounds/themes (like PS3) would certainly be welcome…

Just let me kill that fucking controller light aaaggghhh! It actually lights up my room at night. So close to taping a bit of cardboard over it or something.

I have audio cut outs when using the headphone connection of the controller. It’s annoying as hell. I have finally contacted support yesterday. Waiting for a reply now. Not sure if this is an issue of the controller or the ps4 software. The headphones, tried multiple ones, work everywhere but on the ps4.

Overall the ui will need tons of patches before it will become a good one. For now it is just a working one. It feels like a beta of a ui. What’s there works but it’s uninspired and boring with no identity or soul.

PSN needs gamer tag change too finally. This is a console marketed around online features. It needs to allow psn ID change if it wants to be as modern as steam or xbox live.

A PS1/2 emulator and a audio/video/picture app capable of using the internal HDD, USB storage devices and media servers are the two applications far on top of my wish list.

Let’s hope it’s not just another security update and actually does something of great value for the user such full multimedia playback parity with PS3. That is what the majority of the user base want. We now have the greatest games console ever built, not give us multimedia that is not tied to subscription based streaming.
