How much is the world's largest video game collection worth?

We can now put a dollar value on the world's largest collection of video games. How reassuring.

Two weeks ago, the Guinness World Record holder for the largest video game collection put the whole lot up on sale.

The GameGavel auction has now ended, with a winning bid of $750,250 - the price of over 12,000 mainstream new releases.

Although many of the games in the 11,000+ collection wouldn't attract anything like their cover price normally, the whole package includes several full system catalogues, and some of the rare games alone would be worth much, much more than any triple-A blockbuster commands.

The collection includes the Guinness World Record certifying its singular enormity, and was sold off by collector Michael Thommason (pictured above) to meet immediate family responsibilities. Thommason, who has managed and owned various game stores and trading sites over the course of his career, expects to rebuild his collection.
