Is the Titanfall team's next project not a first-person shooter...?

We know Respawn must be doing more than just pumping out new maps for Titanfall, but we never expected this.

We had expected Respawn to move straight onto pre-production for Titanfall 2, leaving just a content team to work on Titanfall DLC and support, but it looks like the developer may have something else in the works.

Last week, we heard that former God of War boss Stig Asmussen had joined Respawn and was working on something that was not the original Titanfall.

Now, new recruiting ads on the developer's website (helpfully screengrabbed by AllGamesBeta) suggest it's got some sort of "third-person action/exploration" title in the works.

"Successful developer making another game" isn't news, but the break away from first-person shooters is; Respawn was founded by former Infinity Ward heads Jason West and Vince Zampella, better known as "the guys who made Call of Duty", and shooters are written into its DNA.

Still, it'd be wonderful to see the broad talent at Respawn stretch its creative wings a bit, and we look forward to finding out what it's prototyping in there - whenever that may be.

It'll be interesting to see who publishes this new game. Respawn is independent, despite its tight links with EA. We do expect whatever it is to be multi-platform, if that helps - although if Sony or Microsoft could nab an exclusive it wouldn't hurt either company's prospects, I'm sure.
