King's cloning suit against 6Waves to be held in US as judge denies move to Beijing

Candy Crush maker King has succeeded in keeping its lawsuit against developer 6waves in the US, due to a judge ruling against moving the case to Beijing.

6waves is accused of copyright infringement of King's Farm Heroes Saga and Pet Rescue Saga, as the later is alleging the Hong Kong-developer's Farm Epic and Treausre Epic are clones of King's IP.

The developer, which denies the allegations, tried to have the suit moved to Beijing by filing a dismissal on November 1, but a US district court judge refused the request.

The case will now be heard in San Francisco, and 6waves will have to prove popular puzzle game concepts used by itself, King, and other developers, "cannot be copyrighted".

“Puzzle solving games and themes like farming and jewels are not unique and have been created by many other companies," reads the rebuttal. "Such popular gameplay and themes cannot be copyrighted.”

Shots of each game are posted over on Develop, which also has the full story.
