No discount on old Vita model, stock "all but sold out"

Sony won‘t be cutting the price on the old model PlayStation Vita console in the run up to the PS Vita slim release.

The hardware manufacturer told VG247 this morning that the current Vita model has sold well over Christmas in the UK and there’s little reason to cut prices in a bid to shift stock.

"We don’t need to, there’s very little stock in the trade," UK MD Fergal Gara said. "It’s all but sold out. On this occasion there’s no immediate need to start discounting the old model."

When asked how soon he expects the current model - which features a OLED screen rather than the new LCD display - to remain on the market, he replied: "Weeks. In short, if this model wasn’t coming we’d be running out of stock very fast. The timing's nice in terms of clearing out the old model."

Sony announced the release of the slim PS Vita this morning for the UK, priced at £180. It goes on sale February 7.
