The Metal Gear Solid 5: Ground Zeroes video which was shown during TGS 2013, is available once again as a narrated demo showing various mission details and gameplay.

Speaking in a group interview this week attended by Kotaku, series creator Hideo Kojima, since the game has gone open-world, the team included fewer cutscenes in the game so as not to take away the “freedom the players would have.”

Kojima compared cutscenes in games to a “standard Hollywood movie” where you have “15-20 minutes then the title, and then the main story starts.” Instead, the infiltration missions will tell the story.

“So all of the events leading to [Phantom Pain] will be happening through the game. You can think of Ground Zeroes as this,” he said. “Ground Zeroes, as far as gameplay goes, will have the player get used to all these different elements, these different actions that we will have within this open world.

“So people can get used to it… as far as Ground Zeroes goes, there’s one big mission that leads into the events of the main game, so you can see it somewhat as the tanker mission. This main mission in Ground Zeroes is what ties strongly to the main part of Phantom Pain.

“Within that big mission of Ground Zeroes you have several side elements, collecting specific items, doing something within a certain amount of time… In the side-ops you will find several elements scattered, and when you put them together, it will put together a story within the player’s mind of what is the next part of the game.”

Kojima says Phantom Pain is “200 times” the size of the map in the mission shown in the video.

Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes is coming to PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in northern spring 2014. It is a prequel to Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain.

It was revealed last night during Spike’s All Access PS4 launch event that Metal Gear Solid: Ground Zeroes will contain PlayStation 4 exclusive content containing a mission in which you play as Solid Snake, from MGS, MGS 2 and MGS 4, as opposed to Big Boss, the Snake seen in Ground Zeroes and The Phantom Pain.
