Xbox One SDK plagued by eleventh hours bugs – rumour

Monday, 28th October 2013 22:33 GMT By Brenna Hillier

Rumour has it Microsoft is busting a gut to clear up errors with the Xbox One’s software development kit ahead of the console’s launch next month.

Various anonymous development sources told Kotaku that there are a number of issues with the SDK.

The sources say a collection of bugs was uncovered in the most recent version of the development software, and that some games have had to be resubmitted for certification with a newer version of the SDK.

As a result, both Microsoft and development teams are said to be in crunch to get software ready for launch.

“It’s going to be a fun few weeks in Microsoft QA,” one source said.

However, another source said this kind of thing always happens at hardware launch and isn’t necessarily indicative of potential problems for consumers at launch.

The Xbox One drops in North America, western Europe and selected PAL territories on November 22.

    Simply DON’T buy a XboxOne.
Wait a year, or two… are simply buy a PS4.
It’s clearly the better gaming system.

    These aren’t consoles anymore… Just gimped PC’s…

The main selling point of a console is ‘plug and play’… This is getting silly now.

    Amazing insight.

I was under the obviously mistaken impression that neither of these consoles were actually out yet.

Xbox One is a crappy PC. Funny thing though that it has HDD that consumers can’t remove but in reality you can.
Xbox One Consumers are potential MS slaves.

Well, if the steam controller works really well… I think it will eliminate the “real” selling point of consoles (just sitting on a couch with a controller and playing a game).

I have been enjoying Neogaf’s threads on this.

Lots of things have sprung up and the guys that are leaking this stuff are respected and have been right more than not.

720p on Ghosts vs 1080p on PS4, Snap problems on Xbone, Unfinished OS issues on Xbone, Chat api issues on Xbone, performance issues on Xbone, etc.

PS4 has its own share with rumors about HDCP video capture not working at launch, no free PS4′s at launch for journalists, embargo’s on reviews from MS till Launch day, who knows if its true but its interesting.

    Zzzz..

Enough ‘rumor’ crap.. lets just see how things roll next month when the consoles are in players hands.

MS had their chance and blew it, but what if Sony stopped making the actual hardware of a playstation (hardware is obviously far too expensive now) and reduced it to an operating system for a pc (after all that’s what the new gen consoles are, right?).. Then we could all dual boot from Steam Linux in to ‘PCPlaystation’.

I think that would be a better solution and in that case I might even be persuaded to actually take part in some kind of ‘console’ activity.

Is this a video game news site or a knitting circle? how many times are you allowed to use the word anonymous in an article before people call bullshit? Or is this a clever hacking article?

Yeah, it’s that and not spending an extra £400 on your machine in the first place.

I wouldn’t be surprised if there was an element of truth to this. I reckon Microsoft are way ahead of where they’d like to be with next gen – Sony possibly caught them with their pants down announcing PS4 in february, – and with a fairly decent spec.

Nothing that can’t be fixed in time though.

Kotaku etc don’t make up stories. If they mislead, it’s because they were misled by a source.

    They’ve generally been right before

    YAWM.

Who does not have bugs at release?

    I’m getting one.

Cant wait to see what Sony’s hiding prior to the release date that will be an event to watch.

  18. Phoenixblight

    hiding?

Its funny how these leaks and rumor are all saying Xbox One is having issues but yet their fanbase claim SOny is lying or hiding something.

    @17 – Hiding?!? Hahahahaa…

Wow, are you twelve? If you’re not, then you really have no excuse for the weird corporate loyalty/hatred.

Game Journalism is officially dead, can’t believe we are a few weeks away from the new generation, and all journalist wanna do is complain and report negative stories, about resolution and bugs.

FFS just celebrate the beginning of a new gen, it’s been 7-8 years since the last

    #20 6 months ago
  21. DSB

It is kind of a non-story, I’d be surprised if they weren’t tweaking away, but hopefully Microsoft will realize that dropping the ball on launch is something they really have to take seriously next time.

Total snowball effect in play here.

@20 And that’s why they call them journalists, rather than cheerleaders with keyboards.

Shame on them for not doing someone elses job eh?

I’m sure Microsoft has their very own public relations site full of good news for guys like you though.

“FFS just celebrate the beginning of a new gen, it’s been 7-8 years since the last”

What? LOL? 1080p on your consoles finally is a start of a new generation? Well, sorry. I had this generation since 2008.

Now, tell me what I should celebrate? A 500$ machine with 720p Call Of Duty in it?

News is news though I must admit this news is taking an unecessary drama soap turn.

Ms already have a list of title contenders for launch.
Let say even the sdk has bugs they must have a series of games to QA already with or without bugs which after sfk revision will probably make QA life easier.
All thia to say that xbox1 preorders have NEXT to nothing to fear for launch.
Instead this may well be an educated beautifying PR.
    Time will tell…

So coca or pepsi for launch?

  28. Hyperx64

#4 @Erthazus The Xbox One has 3 X USB 3.0 ports, which allows for over 9 Tera Bytes + of external storage at this point (with 3 X 3TB external drives as a standard/current example), which makes your point baseless and moot.

#2 @monkeygourmet The rumour is about Software Development Kits, NOT console hardware you imbecile :/

#9 @fearmonkey Cherry picking again Mr. cherry picker. 2K announced a day or two ago that both versions of NBA2K14 run at native 1080p @ 60fps on both Xbox One and PS4. Stop sprouting this juvenile nonsense :/
