Microsoft testing Google Glass-like device - rumour

Microsoft is said to be working on wearable computing tech similar to Google Glass, according to rumours out of the financial world today.

The Wall Street Journal cites an anonymous sourcefor word that Microsoft is "testing prototypes for Web-connected eyewear similar to the Google Glass device".

The company is said to have asked a number of manufacturers in Asia for camera and other key components.

The source said the project may not ever make it past the prototyping stage, but that Microsoft is "determined to take the lead in hardware manufacturing to make sure the company won't miss out on the opportunities in the wearable gadget market" if it does pan out.

It's worth remembering that Microsoft recently bought out the bulk of Nokia's smartphone business, positioning it well to start churning out more mobile devices.
