Gran Turismo 6 audio enhancements may not be ready in time for launch, says Yamauchi

Gran Turismo 6 was set to come with new engine audio enhancements Polyphony Digital head Kazunori Yamauchi has stressed that the changes may not be ready in time for launch. They could come as a post-launch patch, he says.

Speaking with Eurogamer, Yamauchi said, “I think I mentioned this in the past, but we’re really working to change the fundamental way that the engine sound works. Right now I have a feeling that it might not make it for day one for GT6.”

When quizzed if the updated audio could be patched in at a later date, he replied, “There’s a good possibility that we might do this.”

He added that data will not be transferable between GT5 and GT6, and explained, “For Gran Turismo 5 to Gran Turismo 6 there’ll be no real transfer of data. The main reason for that is the GT5 save data has been cracked already, so we can’t really confirm the validity of the save data.”

However, transfer between GT6 and GT7 is on the cards.

What do you make of the above?

Gran Tursimo 6 is out December 5 in Japan, then December 6 worldwide.

Why release an obviously unfinished game? Port it to PS4 instead.

This will just end up as GT5.2.

if they cant release a finished game at day one. they will obvious come with a goty or something a year later. in this case if you aren’t a die hard fan and can wait. go for the goty or the gt7 on ps4. i know what i will do, drop gt6 and just wait for gt7 on the ps4, that will be released in 3 years.

So typical. Some of their mistakes seem eerily intentional.

The ingame engine sound is not really good but the replay audio is some of the best I’ve heard. The doppler effect is perfect, the road noise, tire noise, the sound delay and propagation, the sound reflection on surfaces, the reverberation. The way you can hear intake noise when seeing the car front and muffler noise while seeing the back, much better than Forza.

If GT can get better samples and keep the audio processing effects it will have some of the best sounds.

But it’s just not better engine samples we need. We need transmission noise samples, brake noise, turbos, etc…

I don’t think it’s possible to have all these samples loaded in 256 MB of RAM.

Unless you’re playing with a really good headset and/or a decent sound system, there really isn’t much to lose here. The LFA still rocks even in GT5.

I don’t have anything else on my list in December so I probably would still pick this up day-1.
