Epic working on unannounced triple-A shooter

Epic founder Tim Sweeney has confirmed that Epic Games has a number of projects in the works in addition to Fortnite.

Speaking at Develop Conference in Brighton, as reported by Eurogamer, Sweeney said Epic is spreading its resources out across different tiers of projects.

"We're building several games at different scales," he said.

"We're building Fortnite, a PC online game which is a fun, sort of Minecraft meets Left 4 Dead. It's a 35-person team. It's not aiming to beat Call of Duty in terms of graphics. It's more of a Pixar art style and a limited project in scope, just aimed at fun as opposed to massive breakthroughs in scale.

"We're building a bigger, triple-A shooter project that hasn't been announced yet.

"And we've also internally started developing really tiny projects with two or three guys working together as a team for a few months in small scale game development."

Sweeney noted that he thinks its "really cool" that Epic is testing and learning as it tried out differently-scaled projects.

"We're trying to master development at every scale," he said.

During the same session, Sweeney predicted that graphics will be photo-realistic within ten years.

In the spirit of pure speculation, it doesn't seem that far-fetched that Epic might be working on a Gears of War game for Xbox One.
