Titanfall lead artist discusses how pilot skins turned into 20 foot tall mechs

Titanfall's giant mechs are discussed by lead artist Joel Emslie in the EAvision E3 video below.

In the game, you get to play pilots who fight inside and around Titans, that move with both "speed and grace." Pilots can double jump over roofs, wall run and even jump on the back of Titans to rip off their panels and shoot their brains out.

Emslie said the Titans came about when the studio was trying to create a second skin around the pilots. These skins eventually grew into the 20 foot tall Titans.

In order to make it work, the design team went back to "old school techniques," such as practical model making like in the films Star Wars and Bladerunner.

According to Emslie, they wanted the Titans to feel like "evolved versions of Abrams battle tanks."

Titanfall is expected on PC, Xbox 360 and Xbox One in 2014.
