Ouya CEO apologizes for console not arriving on time for Kickstarter backers

Tuesday, 25th June 2013 18:43 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Ouya CEO Julie Uhrman has apologized to the system’s Kickstarter backers over the Android console not arriving in time over on the backers only section of the page.

According to Uhrman, the issue stems from a delay on the production partner’s part.

“I am pissed,” she said. “Some of you have not yet received your Ouya – and, to you, I apologize. I did not promise to ship to *most* of you before we hit store shelves. I promised to ship to *all* of you. I’ve been reading your comments, and we are working to solve this.

“We delivered your Ouyas to our partner in May, and since then they have been in their custody. We paid for shipping, yet the deliveries remain incomplete. We know everyone is getting their Ouya, but it is taking longer than we expected.”

Uhrman said it may take another two weeks or longer for some of the Ouya units to ship.

“We will resolve this as quickly as possible,” she said. “I’ve had my team working all evening to provide me with the current state of affairs and what we are doing to make it right.”

Ouya’s head of operations Ken Stephens said those who have received shipment confirmations should receive their console 15-17 days after the notice.

“Over the past few months, we encountered and conquered many challenges spanning both hardware and software in order to bring the best product we could to market,” Stephens said.

“We have tried to make sure that the challenges we faced did not impact our early supporters, but unfortunately we came up short.”

Ouya is manufactured in mainland China with a company in Hong Kong in charge of the shipments.

Ouya launched today in the US and UK, and you can purchase it from GAME. It’s currently listed as out of stock on Amazon US.

So has it gotten any better or is this still a console with laggy menu system, dead-zone riddled controller and other problems?

I like the OUYA.. they working on it. As a start-up company I think they’re receiving way to much hate.

I still need to do more research but the specs aren’t impressive but I guess if it’s just for playing ported mobile phone games I guess you don’t need much.
