Mass Effect: BioWare keen on spin-off games, Garrus, Javik and others in the frame

Monday, 13th May 2013 11:53 GMT By Dave Cook

Mass Effect developer Casey Hudson has shed light on the potential for spin-offs independent off Shepard’s adventures. As big fans of Garrus, the team has suggested in a new interview that they’d be in favour of giving the sniper his own game, as well as Javik and other supporting cast members.

Speaking with OXM, Hudson said, “There’s so much that could be told in the Mass Effect universe. It’d be cool to do something completely unrelated to the larger storyline, like a story about a private investigator on the Citadel. Or maybe something detailing Garrus’ time in C-Sec.

Team member Dusty Everman added, “While being one of Shepard’s most loyal friends, Garrus has also had some of the most driven personal goals. He’s a hero in his own right, as Archangel and beyond. Who wouldn’t want to see the further adventures of the bold, charming Garrus Valkarian (there’s a lot of guns out there to calibrate).”

Mac Walters then added, “”Aria. The Illusive Man. Kai Leng. Any henchman. The list goes on. I think most of them could have successful spin-offs of their own in some fashion.”

Gamble closed in suggesting that a Javik spin-off would be quite neat, “Following the story of Javik a little bit more would be pretty cool. As the last remaining member of a lost race, I think that we could tell a lot of stories about his adventures in the Milky Way, and coming to terms with his place in the new Galaxy.”

So the question is, which character would you like to see given a spin-off? Let us know below.

START FRESH – NO SPINOFFS! Don’t stall the brand with inter-rim crap like that, fps. Bioware’s already riding a rep downslope, they’ve no need to exacerbate the situation.

#1 Agreed. Besides i’d rather a blank slate character like Shepard again, in which individual gamers can imprint some of themselves onto. I want to create my own character again, not be lumbered with already fully fleshed out character identities established in the original games.

I would love a spin-off title. As long as it’s not like the adventures of James Vega and Jacob.

A Garrus solo adventure would be awesome. An Aria, Grand Theft Auto-in space-like title would be amazing.

I wouldn’t mind too much if it was a Garrus spin-off maybe following the two years he spends as Archangel, taking down the gangs.

Wrex is the coolest character in the universe. He deserves a game. Krogans live long lives and a his game could establish the world pre-shepherd. Also, playing the sequence where he has to off his father would be ÉPIC!

    Gods know, this shouts stagnation.

New ideas in the universe not what x character did before x happened. Perhaps after the “endings” but not before we have already been told what these characters were and did and in garus case how unhappy he was doing it. Give us something new.

Id rather all new characters in a time frame hundreds if not thousands of years after Mass Effect 3

They should start from scratch! Garrus deserves his own game ofcource but still I hope this does not stop them from developing a full new Mass Effect!

Nope, not interested, even the last shred of rebellious nostalgia skittering around the forgotten corners of my brain knows that Bioware/EA are no longer capable of making a game worth buying.

Coming from someone who enjoyed ME3, I don’t want any spin offs. Start fresh please.
