DayZ base building to be like capital ships in EVE Online

Bohemia Interactive drew inspiration from CCP in conceptualising DayZ's base building, which it envisions as similar to EVE Online's capital ships.

In a PAX East presentation recently made available online - you can watch it in full below - creator Dean "Rocket" Hall explained howbase building in Day Z is going to be quite an elaborate affair.

We are big fans of Eve Online, really big fans. We caught up with CCP, I caught up with them at E3 and at Gamescom. We hung out with them a lot and they were really awesome, gave us a lot of support, a lot of advice. Base-building will be our version of capital ships," he said, as transcribed by PCGamesN.

"We’ve talked about a lot of ideas - we don’t think that base-building above ground would work because there’s not enough space. So we’re looking at going underground with it and having it kind of like Skyrim where it’s a separate instance. And we’ve been toying with the idea - and prototyping - of doing it Red Faction-style, digging it out and that kind of stuff."

It sounds pretty amazing, but it won't be featured in the game for quite a long time yet. DayZ's standalone release is expected sometime this year on PC and probably on consoles thereafter. Its commercial launch was delayed so Bohemia could rebuild it entirely to eliminate many problems of the original mod.
