World of Tanks 8.5 update is live this week, adding new maps, tanks & more

World of Tanks developer Wargaming is rolling out its 8.5 update now, adding new maps, tanks and store features into the mix.

PCGamesN reports that the update has just come out of a lengthy beta testing phase, and that all new features will be fully implemented before this week is through.

One key change is the ability to buy premium consumable items using in-game credits. Previously, you could only buy these valuable items using gold, which you could only earn by spending real-world money, but now you can pay for them using your amassed in-game credits, which are earned by defeating foes and supporting your team in battle.

Meanwhile the studio has bolstered its tank roster with three new Soviet models - the T-60, T-70 and T-80 - while the Germans get these new light-class vehicles - the VK 20.01 (D), VK 30.02 (D) v1, Indien Panzer, Prototype der Arbeitsgruppe A, Aufklarerpanzer Panthe and the Leopard 1.

Finally, there's a new Pearl River map, and tarted up versions of previous maps Malinovka, South Coast and Siegfried Line, which have all received a graphical make-over.
