Batman: Arkham Origins to contain multiplayer – report

Tuesday, 23rd April 2013 21:50 GMT By Stephany Nunneley

Batman: Arkham Origins could be the first in the series to contain multiplayer mode, if a source close to Kotaku is accurate. According to the report, players will be able to step into the shoes of villains from the series and battle it out against Batman and Robin. Gameplay would see players as members of either Bane or Joker’s gang which include all sorts of familiar faces. We won’t delve into that end too much on here in case you want to remain unscathed, plus we don’t want to get yelled at. It hurts our feelings. We’ve sent a mail to Warner on the matter. Batman: Arkham Origins is out in October 25 for PC, PS3, Wii U and Xbox 360.

Oh boy. Reminds me of God of War Ascension where fans do not see the need for multiplayer.
    Anyway, Tacked On? Unnecessary? Innovative?

This literally put me right off this game. The fact was Rocksteady always poured their efforts into a brilliant singleplayer experience and now they have some new studio developing it and shoehorning a multiplayer mode that no one asked for. No thanks.

Well I can’t say I’m surprised, I knew they going to fuck these awesome series up with multyplayer at some point. Even though I’m still highly disappointed….

Multiplayer is optional, we know that, so you only play if you want to. But I can’t help but feel that they’ll do the usual lazy thing of lessening the single player content to drive people into multiplayer all in the name of longevity. If I’m wrong and the game is as interesting, involving and sprawling as Arkham City, then I’m all in.

Don’t these people learn from other games? Did the MP really help Tomb Raider reboot? Or BioShock 2? Or Dead Space 2? Or God of War Ascension?

^ MP has worked for Mass Effect, Uncharted & Splinter Cell. Lets not be to pessimistic.

The only one that really DID work is Splinter Cell, especially in case of last game (Conviction) where MP was the best part of the package. The tied-to-story MP in ME3 was unnecessary and forced. Maybe it was slightly fun but seriously, this is Mass Effect, a story / choice driven sci-fi RPG, not some space marine shooter like Halo.

Uncharted’s was simply a stab at Gears’ pie. The best things about Uncharted are the quality of its writing, charm of characters and the crazy set-pieces, neither of which were present during MP of U2 (Didn’t try U3).

Mass Effect’s multiplayer was fun, but in Uncharted, it just felt unnecessary. I never touch it.

^ Yes, but you still got your quality SP experience with your fun MP though didn’t you?

And that’s what MP is about, surely? Fun with friends &/or strangers.

And I didn’t call you Shirley.

#1 The multiplayer in God of War: Ascension is fantastic and the vast majority of fans love it, so don’t assume to speak for others. The single player took a bit of a hit due to MP but it was still a great experience overall.

Bioshock 2, Tomb Raider, Max Payne 3, Mass Effect 3, Uncharted 2 are other great games that added multiplayer. If the added multiplayer is great like in God of War: Ascension then it DOES add a lot to the franchise, I’ve put more hours into GoW:A than all the other God of War’s combined which can only be a good thing.
