Gears of War: Judgment has second campaign set during GoW 3

Monday, 4th March 2013 14:24 GMT By Dave Cook

Gears of War: Judgment will feature a second unlockable campaign called ‘Aftermath’ that shows just what Baird and Cole where doing while Marcus was tussling with Queen Myrrah during Gears of War 3′s climax.

OXM reports that the second campaign is unlocked by earning all available stars in Judgment’s core campaign.

You do this by scoring as many head shots, executions and flashy kills in each stage. Think the star rating from Angry Birds and you’re along the right lines, but with less chainsaw decapitation.

Speaking about the second campaign, Gears of War: Judgment’s lead level designer Jim Brown told the site, “We wanted to do something that added context to the game, so you had that beginning part, but then this ties everything together with the main trilogy as well.

“So you’ll see when you go in there some people you recognise, some places, maybe even some enemies and then see how the two storylines weave together in the context of the whole. Obviously we don’t want to give away too many spoilers in how it’s going to end or what you’re going to see.

“But the basic gist of it is that when they’re at the fort, Marcus sends Barrett and Cole off to find supplies and reinforcements, and then he goes off to Azura. Then at the very end they show up with helicopters. This is where they went and what they did on that mission.”

So there you go, a core campaign, full multiplayer, a second campaign and – depending on which version of Judgement you buy – a full copy of the original Gears of War can be yours. What do you make of that then?

Stop locking off content from me!

If I pay for a game I expect to get access to ALL of it.

If I have a book or a film I can skip to the end. Why should games have the right to shut bits off until I’ve completed arbitrary barriers?

This archaic game design pisses me off.

@2 : Stop complaining. Completely a game (or most of it) to unlock a second campaign is good game design. Your lucky this second campaign isn’t unlocked through a dlc purchase.

@TheBlackHole Shut up dude, its a good way to get people to play the game in different ways. You’re lucky that they are giving this for free and not some campaign dlc.

Personally I’ve always liked DLC. I wish more games would make their DLC free like this seems to be. Most of the time though it’s all about making Gamestop/XBOXLive happy, I guess. Then again they use that money to make new games so I suppose it just depends on how you look at it.
