Wii Mini confirmed for UK release

Tuesday, 26th February 2013 12:15 GMT By Dave Cook

Wii Mini has been confirmed for a UK release by Nintendo. The console was unveiled last year for a Canada-only launch.

In a statement sent to VG247 today, Nintendo confirmed the console would hit the UK on March 22nd.

It comes after Nintendo staunchly said Wii Mini would not hit the UK.

The red and black console comes packaged with a red Wii Remote Plus and a red Nunchuk controller, but no online capabilities, as confirmed last year. Nintendo said that not everyone needs the online option.

Nintendo is also adding Mario Party 8, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Power Tennis and Super Paper Mario to its list of cheaper ‘Nintendo Selects’ titles, in time for the Wii Mini UK launch.

No pricing was given in Nintendo’s statement, but the Canadian model launched at $99.99.

Can I add the homebrew channel to this system. Also will it be thirty pounds or less. Otherwise on both counts, no thanks.

So I guess the games will have certain updates on them if the console needs them but for the most part launching a console with no online capabilities in this era means your console is officially dead.

Oh how the tides have turned ;)

it is gonna be hard for nintenDONT in the coming years, after the ps4/x720 are out.

there is also rumored that nintenDONT gonna release a new upgraded wii-u in 2016, but it maybe to late by then… most likely they will be a software based company like sega in the future.

I don’t understand this move by Nintendo at all. Seems like a complete waste of effort. Surely buyers that want a cheap Wii, could buy a used reg one, and still have the full gammet of features? Localy you can get a used Wii for 75usd.

I just don’t understand the thinking here. Not like the old Wiis required an internet connection to work. It was optional. But with no netflix, no VC….what is the point?

@9 – Agree 100%. It is completely baffling to say the least…

You have to wonder what freaking planet Nintendo are on with some of their decisions.

This feels like a complete waste of resources making an ugly, lower spec version of a console that died 3 years ago. Surely it would have been wiser to put these efforts towards bettering WiiU instead?
