DayZ patch adds bloodborne virus, new weapons

Tuesday, 5th February 2013 05:49 GMT By Brenna Hillier

ArmA 2 mod DayZ has been patched, adding a ton of new features. There’s a collection of weapons and food, two new vehicles and the ability to catch viruses and flip ATVs (good luck with that, Dan), for example. Zombies can now damage your vehicle, pull you from it, or even spawn inside unoccupied vehicles, and will be attracted by the sound of trees being felled. Plus a huge pile of fixes; full patch notes are available on the DayZ forums, where incidentally you’ll also find plenty of people chatting about the first DayZ standalone release footage.

Thanks, PCGamer.

Can anyone tell me if the server browser for this has been tidied up? Last time I tried this it really was a mess and rather buggy to get into servers.

Not in the mod, no — that’s a flaw of Arma 2 which the mod can’t get around.

HOWEVER, in the world-first standalone public video it was revealed that clicking on Play will default to the most recent server that your character was on, so at least “same server” connections will be a one-button affair.

Clicking on Change Server will take you to the server browser, which is now apparently administered through Steam… which, considering that the standalone is using VAC for anti-cheat, almost certainly means that the standalone will be a Steamworks game.

@2 Cheers. Yeah I saw the standalone video, it’s looking rather cool :) Very tempted to get it when it’s ready.
