Asura’s Wrath dev has three new, unnanounced IP in development

Monday, 7th January 2013 09:37 GMT By Dave Cook

Asura’s Wrath studio CyberConnect2 has issued a new year’s greetings video on YouTube and along with it, the confirmation that it has at least three entirely new titles in development for 2013.

The studio is currently working on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure All-Star Battle, due for release later this year, but the team’s new year message – released this morning – hints at new things yet to come. Hosted by studio CEO Hiroshi Matsuyama, the below video has been translated by SGCafe, revealing that the team is working on new projects.

The direct translation is that CyberConnect2 is working on “original new works” – the phrase used when describing new IP in Japan, the site explains. So this doesn’t necessarily rule out Asura’s Wrath 2, as the studio will continue to create sequels, such as Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm, which releases in March.

Here’s the new year’s message in full:

Are those new IPs the ones with massive crowds of AI-free enemy being rendered multiple times around you and one button combos?

Asura’s Wrath is clearly a lot less ‘game’ than others, but (if you’ve an open mind) that doesn’t stop it from being a thoroughly enjoyable ride. The free-fighting sections are akin to the combat in the Naruto games. Not overly complex, but again, FUN. The game is just one huge set-piece.

Games don’t have to be complex to be enjoyable. I spent about 4 hours on Jetpack Joyride at the weekend. The ‘one more go’ thing got me bad.

Back to Asura’s Wrath, I fucking loved it. A sequel would be really great news.

If someone has no interest in anime (or elaborate, OTT stories) then CC2 clearly aren’t the guys/gals for them.

I immensely Asura’s Wrath until the DLC based cliffhanger came and ruined everything. Other than that, really awesome game. I’d love to see more games from the same devs.
