Tomb Raider campaign 12-15 hours long, sequel planned if successful
Tomb Raider’s campaign appears to be a lengthy one, according to Crystal Dynamics’ global brand director Karl Stewart. The studio member has also stated that a sequel is a possibility should the team’s reboot prove successful.
Over on the official Tomb Raider Twitter, Stewart answered questions about the game, revealing that Lara will have regenerative health and won’t be able to swim – an odd choice given the character’s previous ability to swim and the fact she’s on an island surrounded by water.
Stewart also confirmed the average campaign running time:

He also confirmed that should the reboot prove successful, then a sequel will follow:

Tomb Raider will launch across Europe on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 from March 5th 2013.
Thanks CVG.

Regen health = major dumbing down for consoles.
What about finding health packs? So no health.
And no swimming? Can’t fall in water then? That’d break the original game in a dozen places.
If it is anything like Ass Creed 3, ten of the 15 hours will be spent watching dull cut-scenes waiting for a chance to actually play the game.

“Lara can swim, but just not in this game.”..I am guessing she will acquire this magical power in the sequel.

You’re the first person I’ve seen mention this! I thought I was the only one!
Back on topic, so if no one buys Tomb Raider we can finally put this aging series to rest? Day 1 no-buy for me then!

Don’t care about regenerating health.
Don’t care if Lara can swim.
I care only about those sweet assed environmental puzzles. That is the essence of Tomb Raider. Not combat. Not swimming. Puzzles.

The first Tomb Raider in 1995 had fucking underwater swimming puzzles and just because Uncharted in all its infinite fucking glory never had them it excuses the absense now?
A game being lesser than an entry in the same series from 17 fucking years ago is something to be a little bit grumpy about no? Some of the best ever moments in the entire series came from being underwater, the sunken Ocean Liner? The sharks? Even the start of God Damn Underworld as a fantastic aquatic adventure.
Its a Goddamn Survival game with regenerating health, Minecraft survival has a better idea than this. All the tension is just going to come in instant death QTEs, I know it in my bones.
I hate you people.

Er… what? I can’t believe you’d even need to be schooled on that.
@12: So now we define whether or not a videogame is good because of swimming? They’re trying to establish a new take on a familiar cross-media character… you don’t compare all the previous Batman games to Arkham Asylum, do you? There’s no bloody Batmobile in that, remember! This is no different to TR: Legend in that regard and I look forward to playing the results.

No im trying to say the removal of something that was integral to almost every other game in the series and lead to some fantastic moments is a negative thing.
No underwater areas is’nt a game breaker for me though. I could deal with that, no regenerating health is the problem for me here. Its going to sap any sort of tension out surviving on this island. Hey though Uncharted has Regen Health so its totally ok because they are doing similar things with the Gears of War shooting and the throwing grenades from hanging and WAIT A MINUTE…
Removing things and adding nothing instead is a bad thing. BAD THING.
Also AA had the batmobile in it. Batman gets some shit out of its boot or something.

@#14 Gheritt White – Yes, the PC version in 1996 was developed for the PC separately to the Saturn version and had save-game (not dumb-ass checkpoints) and health that you had to top up by finding health packs (part of the puzzle), not by just standing still. Both of which are dumb-down options introduced since the game franchise went “multi-platform” i.e. developed for console then converted.

I see now that are right.
Nothing should change, ever.
They should just remake the same game over and over and over.
New ideas and fresh perspectives are scary and we should fear them, right? Progress never comes about through change, right?
Or…. perhaps you should wait to see what gets delivered in the new game before ranting, crying and stamping your feet like a stupid little petulant child.
