PlayStation Mobile has opened its gates to all developers wanting to publish their creations on the platform. The PlayStation Mobile Developer Program is now taking registrations from all applicants. Check out the details below.

Over on PS Blog US, Sarah Thomson, senior manager of mobile content acquisition, declared the program open to all, and revealed that the PlayStation Mobile SDK can be downloaded for just $99.

All developers need to do is head to the PlayStation Mobile Developer Program site, register and pay the fee. The site is full of FAQs about how Sony does business, such as how it sets retail prices for submitted games and more,

Thompson and Sony hope the move will encourage an influx of content on PS Vita and PlayStation Mobile platforms, adding, “We believe we’re in a ‘golden age’ of game development and the Dev Portal lowers the barriers of entry for developers to create and publish titles including games directly to the most die-hard and passionate fans in the industry.

“Our goal was to make publishing game and non-game titles for PlayStation Mobile an easy and enjoyable experience, and we’ve been working hard to ensure that the new Dev Portal accomplishes this objective.”

Would lowering the barrier of entry for developers see an increase of indie software on PS Vita and other formats? What games would you like to see added? Let us know below.

I’m currently a game design student, so this works perfectly for me. Once I have enough cash, I’ll run out, buy a Vita, get the Dev kit, and start creating games on the Vita.

I’m studying media computer science and plan to study game design as master afterwards. I have a Vita and think this is one of the best things, Sony ever did, as they finally open the PlayStation platform for anyone to develop.
Of course, I tried the beta of the PlayStation Mobile SDK which were free. You get a very good SDK and a huge library of demos for anything, you want to do. E.g. simple games, touchscreen-gesture control demos, 2-D/3D-grahics demos, and so on. You can use your standard Vita as Dev Kit. You get everything you theoretically need to build your own PS Mobile game or app for 99€ if you have a Vita or another PlayStation Mobile device, which is just awesome.
