Dishonored reviews begin, get all the scores here

Dishonored reviews have broken out of embargo bringing with them a chain of impressively high scores for Arkane’s stealth-’em-up.

The deluge began as a trickle when CVG’s video review leaked ahead of schedule; the review called Dishonored CVG’s game of the year, and a once-in-a-generation release.

Now that the embargo has lifted, the critics are tussling for consensus and finding it right at the top of the scale. We’ll continue adding scores here as they arrive; let us know of any others you find in the comments section. All scores out of ten unless otherwise noted.

Dishonored launches on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 across Europe on October 12.

what have we learned from earlier experience from Bethesda games?…

first the hype then after the storm have settled, this will be just another “BUG RIDDEN GAME” from Bethesda.

so to save you all from the misery… don’t buy it!

After brink and skyrim, I don’t know if Bethesda can trusted for a ps3 game. Although the game looks good, so maybe pc version for me. I hope Arkane studios do a better job for ps3 one.
@Dave
Did you hear any murmurs about the ps3 version?

@7

First of all, it’s a game developped by Arkane Studios and ONLY published by Bethesda. Second…for me Skyrim wasn’t bug ridden at all. But i can’t speak for others.

I am glad that they are side quests.
But I am still curious how unlocking skills works

SO we only have one review? Did Bathesda give the reviewers the game the day of the embargo being lifted?

Nah, a dutch game site called XGN has the game as well, not a review yet though. We got our own gamesite too and should be receiving a review copy soon, but from what i hear alot of gamesites have yet to receive their copy.

@17…yeah i really do hope that it will feel like the original bioshock. that game is a classic. one of the best games this gen, maybe even decade. i did not like 2 that much though. the gameplay i´ve seen of dishonored reminded me a lot of the first bioshock but in a good and unique way. i am still a bit skeptical though, will wait for more reviews/ gampelay but this far, everything sounds great!

Wait. In what way does is it like Bioshock? I might have to cancel my preorder if it is a carbon copy of that (in my opinion) awful game.

@7
The game is developed by Arcane Studio and published by Bethesda Studios unlike Skyrim which was both developed and published by Bethesda so i don’t think that it will have the same mistakes as Skyrim concerning the PS3 version ;)

@19
Piece of advice don’t cancel your preorder as this game is very amazing.
what ninjanutta meant was that its style is close to Bioshock concerning the character design and the world design but in term of gameplay it’s very different as this game can be played with different styles based on your favorite style meaning that if you want to take the stealth approach you can depend on the stealth abilities and take down your enemies silently ,you could even choose to kill them or to just make them unconscious.
also if you want the direct approach you can use the offensive abilities and take down all your opponents without showing any mercy.
The Duration of the game will depend on the approach you choose meaning that if you choose the stealth approach it could take you double or triple the time it will take on the assault approach.
also this will add to the replay value of the game meaning that you could play it a lot of times and in each time you could try something new ;)

This game is amazing and very addictive i played it for 1 hour yesterday and it was really hard for me to put down the controller lol :D

Chill out man it’s a matter of opinion you could like a game that others don’t like and vice versa ;)

by the way I’m a big fan of bioshock too :)

@21 Arkane are fully owned by Zenimax though.

Bethesda are pretty much synonymous with that stuff. Between Brink, RAGE, Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, they either have some serious trouble making their developers finish their stuff, or some serious trouble making their QA effective.

From the comments on Youtube i understand that it took the reviewer 7 hours to finish. He only used guns, no stealth and skipped all cutscenes. I for one will be using lots of stealth and i always take my time in games, to check things out and i won’t skip cutscenes. So i’m sure i’ll be spending alot more time.

@17 nothing like Bioshock apart from the fact that the city is full of character like Rapture. It plays very differently. Don’t listen to that comparison.

@23 don’t worry about Betheada fears of bugs and being unfinished, Dishonored is nothing like Bethesda games in that respect, honestly.

@11 unlocking skills works by finding runes in the world. You have to hold up this disgusting clockwork heart that beats harder and faster when you get close to one. Because you have to equip it in your hand like a weapon it leaves you vulnerable, so you have to be clever when you use it.

Thanks for adding it :) Sorry for the shameless plug but I just had to get it out there.

Dishonored is such an awesome game! Completed my stealthy playthrough on the PC and a slice’n'dicey one the 360 and I absolutely loved both of them. I just can’t get enough of it!

@19,22: i am chilled and i totally respect opinion. “what?” was just my instant and honest opinion and reaction to that post. all i am having a problem with is the “awful” part in it,
;)
i did read that and my jaw dropped hehe.
bioshock is a good game, they created a great believeable world, nice mood and atmosphere, great story, clever gameplay. by no means it is a bad, or “awful”, not even an only mediocore game, it is a good one and i think anyone should be able to see and respect a good game. many people keep saying halo is a shit game. it is not. if you do not like it, that´s totally fine but saying those games are shit is just kinda unreflected imho. i personally could never really relate to the uncarted games much. still i´d never dare to say those are awful games. they aren´t. they are good games that just do not pull the right triggers for my liking.

topic: wow, just wow, this all sounds great. probably wont be able to play it the next 2 weeks or so though. must – by any means – avoid spoilers now!

Glad to see this scoring so well.

After playing the tits off it at the Expo and watching that incredible developer session on it, I just couldn’t perceive a way in which it would score averagely, let alone poorly.

A true and very strong GOTY candidate if there ever was one.

I really didn’t expect game to be that good.
In gamespot they don’t even have ”bad box” only what is good in game and that I didn’t see in long time:D

the runes are just like the tonics,the gameplay is feels the same,the wheel of weapons-same.quick slots-same…shall i go on?
