This looks more like cinematic garbage to me than than interesting and complex tactical gameplay ~ and the fact that they STILL haven’t shown anything about the actual turn-based campaign side of the game is a little worrying.

I hope i’m wrong and there’s an amazing strategy game under all this fluff, but my first impressions are that they’re selling out even more than they’ve done with their last few games.

I really dont understand why people still get so excited by the graphics of TW – excluding Shogun 2, which was utter shit as it didnt support DX11 at launch.

The past few TW games have featured nothing but playground AI, limited choices and broken multiplayer features at launch.

And I fully expect this to be no different – Rome or not. I will certainly hold off buying this as a day #1 purchase as my faith in CA to deliver engaging RTS games has gone.

IF, Rome has the scope of Empire, with the AI of the original Rome, then this could be a winner but right now, its not high on my shopping list.

@7 The AI of the original Rome was absolute shit compared to the games before it.

Compared to what came after it, it was the last of the ‘best’ AI. For a game like this, I am stunned they still dont address this glaring issue

I was not ever close to being challenged by the AI that preceded Rome. I loved the early games too, Medieval especially, but never for the challenge.

I’m with GrimRita on that one, Rome was a huge step forward, even if it was never perfect. Every game seems to have a few cheap tricks left in there to exploit, and Rome is no exception, but when you’re dealing with equally matched armies, Rome does keep things kinda fluid.

Honestly I’m surprised Creative Assembly survived Medieval 2. Whatever the recent games might have been, they weren’t half as shoddy as Medieval 2.

    What a humongous turd.

@11 The problem with Rome was the AI was never going to be able to fully utilize the animated campaign map (compared to the much simpler style of the earlier games) in the same way that the player is able to. This gives the player too much of an advantage. On top of that, diplomacy felt too easy to exploit. And I missed features from MTW like faction reemergence, where the game kept track of underage heirs of defeated factions ~ so even when you had an empire covering three quarters of the map, the AI still kept you on your toes.

As for battle AI, I really think something was lost in the transition from 2d sprites to 3d. The enemy AI in Rome’s battles didn’t seem anywhere near as competent. Also, it felt like you were constantly fighting small armies in Rome, compared to MTW where you could end up with almost impossible odds against an entire nation’s army stacked together.
