Shattered Haven teaser trailer reveals a pixelated zombie apocalypse

Tuesday, 4th September 2012 10:20 GMT By Dave Cook

Shattered Haven is described as a “Top-Down, 2D, Action-Adventure, Mildly-Rougelikeish Game” by developer Arcen Games. It’s dark, pixelated and brooding. It could be your retrofied answer to the Fallout series. Check out the PC trailer below.

Over at the game’s official site, developer Arcen has posted a shopping list of game features, as well as some insight into the zombie menace plaguing Shattered Haven’s world.

  • Grays aren’t your typical zombies — they have a lore all their own, and theirs is a very different sort of apocalypse than Zed’s.
  • Environmental puzzles make up most of the gameplay.  Figure out how to use the tools, traps, and weapons in each level to clear all the Grays.
  • Follow the story of Darrell and Mary as they try to save their family from a new and unexpected threat.  Both in-game storytelling and painted-style cutscenes.
  • Multiple endings! Depending on your actions, the story may end very poorly, happily, or somewhere in between.
  • Over 100 hand-crafted levels. Two very experienced adventure level designers are designing the adventure from end to end.
  • Included level editor! The same editor used to make the main adventure will let you make your own levels, cutscenes, or even entire adventures.
  • Local 2-player co-op. Using two gamepads, two players on the keyboard, or any combination of the above.

Thanks IndieGames.

That awkward moment when you realize after industry’s extreme obsession with World War II games, now is the dawn of Zombie Apocalypse madness.

Yeah, it was fine when Valve have been milking something which was already done to death and generic on release, but now that others do the same..

@3 the difference is that Left 4 Dead game are good. A lot of also-rans are not. It’s lazy design by committee.

I know Dave, this is starting to get irritating, and the fact is after L4D and DayZ, with the exception of The Walking Dead (Telltale), everything I saw or played was completely bull. I might be looking forward to War Z though, it looks rather nice and it’s a buy to play title, it doesn’t have a subscription or a store that would ruin the game (it has store but a thing of minor in comparison with other store-based shooters).

#4: Seeing as both of them are the same one, and aren’t themselves really anything substantial beyond the generic survival mode, while we’re still getting cool releases like Deadlight, I’d say no, not even close.

Key words like “Fallout” and “Rougelike” automatically activate something hungry in my brain. Kinda looking forward to this.

Seeing a God awful “pixel-Style” zombie game, the first thing that jumps into my mind is “Jesus fuck not another Retro pixel shit-fest” and not “Juses fuck not another zombie game”.

    Funny that.

    Zelda versus zombies?

A Valley Without Wind was crap, don’t think I’m gonna bother with this.

@9 I think that’s just because you’ve never played Infectonator: World Dominator.
