Redemption – artwork for cancelled Crytek shooter surfaces
Artwork for Redemption, a third-person shooter which was in the works at Crytek, has been posted online. They are below courtesy of AGB.

AGB nabbed these bits of artwork from NeoGAF which found the shots posted on the website belonging to the game’s art director, Eric Cochonneau.
The game was in the works for PS3 and Xbox 360 .
The cancelled third-person shooter was first mentioned back in July of last year when the title popped up on a ex-staffer’s resume.

Crytek: Hi EA we have new awesome game will you publish it?
EA: Does it have aliens?
Crytek: Well not really.
EA: Does it have modern technology?
Crytek: No, not really.
EA: Is game action packed with multiplayer?
Crytek: No it is adventure game with beautiful ruined buildings and landscapes.
EA: Than no. Go make Crysis 3.

Jesus what a damn shame. Sure this is only artwork, but that doesn’t matter. Instead they made Crysis 3? Heh…

@1: Third Person Shooter. Not Adventure. And why do you blame EA? It’s not like they have an exclusive contract with EA. They could’ve tried to contact anyone to publish the game.
I wonder why the cancelled it. It looks really beautiful and kind of refreshing.

@8: Interesting. Still, couldn’t they have just looked for a different publisher?

Welcome to the free to play future. Games with atmosphere and story are left behind to satisfy the multiplayer shoot-die-respawn-loop hungry kids. Oh, and pay to level up!
This makes me sad.

Gotta love how everyone always assumes that everything that’s ever cancelled was destined to be great.

@16 True that, but it’s also not hard to understand why many would feel that Crytek are stuck in a rut.
They obviously have some great tech. Shame about the games though.

@16
What 17 said.
It’s like they’ve made the engine, now crapped out.
It would be nice to see them go to town showing it off rather than making:
a safe sequal (crysis 3)
Kinect shoe horned game (Ryse)
Or F2P shit
They have potentially the best current / next gen engine, and have let it go stagnant. This looked more interesting than Crysis 3, that’s for sure.
Big companies tend to can games based on potential sales.
I’d rather play a niche game that’s good but doesn’t sell over Call of Battlefield 12 Hyper Fighting…
