Way of The Samurai 4 features ‘inspired by Demon’s Souls’, says dev
Way of the Samurai 4 is a PS3 exclusive, and it launches in the States today. The game features a neat mechanic that sees wandering samurai appearing in other player’s games, similar to players invading each other’s worlds in Demon’s Souls.

Speaking with Siliconera, Tetsushi Saito, Localization Director at developer Acquire explained Demon’s Souls influence, “The game is characterized by character customization, but there wasn’t a place to display that personality. That said, it was difficult to make the game completely online-capable.”
“The originality of the asynchronous online system used by Demon Soul’s led us into discussions about creating a simplified version in the form of the wandering samurai feature. It was a technological possibility, and it was the right decision to add it to the game. However, it was difficult because it was a feature we added at the end of development”, Saito added.
Way of the Samurai launches in Europe on PS3 5 October.
Thanks Siliconera.

Made a mistake there, Dave. The game has been released in Japan last year, the North American release is today.
The European release is in October … fucking insane.

And yeah man October? Surely it doesn’t take that long to localise?

Funny thing was that Rising Star announced the European release about 6 months before XSEED announced the US release.

@2 Given the multiple languages that they would need localise it in, combined with the amount of text in the game, I could see why it might take them a little longer than usual.

I think the US is just getting a PSN only release, where Europe gets a boxed one (as well as PSN?).

@4: Naw, that’s something that should take 1 month max. Considering that it already took them over a year to release it in the states. There’s simply no excuse.
I just think it’s a big shame, since i’ve been a huge fan of the series right from the start.

@5: Just checked it, you’re right. That would explain a lot actually. I wonder if the game has a japanese language option, the english voice work from the previous games has been horrendous.

@7 – If it’s XSeed releasing it and it’s PSN only, I’d be surprised if there even was an English voice option this time.
As for myself, I’ve never played the series, but I’ve heard such good things. If the price was a little bit cheaper, I’d definitely download it to give it a shot. Maybe if there’s a sale, in the future.
