LEGO: Lord of the Rings will feature 85 playable characters

LEGO: Lord of the Rings will feature 85 playable characters, including a number which, according to Polygon, have not appeared in the film adaptations.

We suppose this means that the extra characters will come from the books which people seem to forget were around before Peter Jackson was even conceived.

But still, this is good news, which means we can look forward to possibly seeing favorites like Tom Bombadil and Goldberry, and possibly Beorn the shapeshifter.

Who knows, there may be characters from The Silmarillion in there as well - Traveller's Tales isn't saying for the moment.

At any rate, the game takes place during the Third Age, so the game may only include characters from The Hobbit and Lord of the Rings and it will also include some of the voice cast from the films.

We'll just have to wait and find out. New screens for the game can be found here.

LEGO: Lord of the Rings arrives on 3DS, DS, PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 and Vita in October.
