Hideo Kojima finds Silent Hill “enviously attractive”
The Metal Gear Solid creator admits making a new Silent Hill game on FOX engine would be a tempting prospect.

Kojima tweeted his thoughts on his official English feed, but beware, Google Translate hasn’t been too kind.
“Silent Hill is in closed room setting and doesn’t require full action so that we can focus on the graphic quality. Enemy doesn’t have to be a lot or move fast. It only requires scariness by graphics and presentation. As being a creator making action game in open world, such game is very enviously attractive. Wish someone could create this on FOX engine.”
It’s fair to say Silent Hill has been faltering for quite a while now, and if anyone is going to take over the reigns, Kojima is an intriguing choice.

It’s about time he expressed and interest in SH, without him at least executive producing one it’s just going to be a pile of shit.

This franchise hasn’t had anything exciting for it since Silent Hill 2, and that was 10+ years ago. I don’t see on how Konami isn’t begging him to do this already.

Silent Hill 3 was brilliant. The Room was good with glaring flaws but still had the great atmosphere. After that, well, it all went to shit.

Jesus fuck no. Stay the hell away from Silent Hill. The franchise has been crapped on enough as it is.

And I suppose his version will use nano-machines as an explanation for Silent Hill being as it is.

Silent Hill one, two *and* three were all classics, IMHO. Everything since then has been entirely skippable.

I think he can be in charge of the graphics development, but nothing more.
p.s i think origin and downpour were ok silent hill games, way better than homecoming and the room.

Homecoming had flashing of ambition and some interesting ideas tucked away, but on the whole it was ugly and relied far to much of the movie.
Origin just felt like fan fiction made into a game. Shattered Memories was kinda bleh.

Yeah only way I would be ok with this if it was using their FOx engine. BUt I would rather having Konami looking into doing SIlent Hill series like Tell Tale games where its episodic and they could make each season a different protagonist. I am sure that would be more profitable than what they had to do with the current gen Silent Hill iterations. Just need to find a team that is capable of doing it and Konami actually able to support it by actually play testing the damn game before releasing it.

Silent Hill can’t do anything anymore. Just let it die, the mystique of the town is destroyed, theres nothing left to fear. The only way to continue telling stories within the town is to endlessly repeat Silent Hill 2.
Let. it. die.

Hours and hours of cutscenes whilst the gameplay is interrupted. Again.

Hideo Kojima taking on a Silent Hill game would be the salvation for a series gone to SHIT.

I don’t see much problems with Kojima making a Silent Hill game. He is great when it comes to graphics, good gameplay ideas, twisted storytelling and of course he is a great movie director. Someone from Konami just has to stop hom from explaining everything in too long cutscenes, but I think if he is told to make the movies short and leave most things open for interpretation, I think it could be a great Japanese Silent Hill.
I played all Silent Hill games, watched Jacob’s Ladder and the Silent Hill Movie and of course, my favourite is SH2.
SH3 is still the most impressive for it’s character models. I’d say even today, most character models do not look as good as SH3′s. (Another reason why I’d want a Kojima-SH)
Silent Hill 4 had a great Soundtrack and atmosphere, but was just too frustrating.
The problem lies more in the not-japanese-made Silent Hill games.
SH Downpour pretty much feels like a true Silent Hill game and was great and even had very nostalgic scene where tweo tracks of SH1 and 2 are played.
The big problem is that Japanese wrtiers have a better hand for building up a special anticipation with very subtile methods and later totally break everything up and they also deal more with delicate topics, while the topics in the western Silent Hill games are not as psychologically twisted but more dull.
Still I’m very much looking foreward to the second Silent Hill Movie and every Silent Hill game in the future.

Actually Kojima should just get Keiichiro Toyama off his fat butt, and get him to work again.

I don’t know if I’m pleased or concerned with this news. I love the Silent Hills games, but there hasn’t been anything decent since PS2 days – the last two iterations were largely forgettable.
Metal Gear Solid was fantastic, but IMO the series became overblown and way too pretentious; so it’ll be interesting to see what Kojima would bring to Silent Hill.
