Good. I don’t play games for realism, I play for escapism and fantasy.

When I play a game, I want the tits to get bigger every minute. They aren’t real women and there isn’t any disrespect to anyone going on.

It really is incredibly sexist, but in fairness to the dev, I think that they are more interested in making money out of their sexist fanbase than being sexist for realsies.

I honestly don’t care about the blatant sexism of the series. It’s an unfortunate part of an otherwise great game. But the devs themselves were the ones who said that they were moving past that sort of thing, and the early footage seemed to suggest that this was the case.

If this was a UFC game or FIFA where they simply added big boobs to “normal” fighters/players, I would consider that sexist.

But this is completely made up fantasy and DOA characters have always been overtly sexy.

On the topic at hand, i think this is a sexist series, because they had a targeted audience for this game, of course is a fighter, but when you put certain characteristics like nice natural attributes for both man an women, to cater to that specific target, why is bad saying that is sexiest?, if that is the main intention from the creators, for me is not bad and i dont mind it, but is amusing that this is a topic or a matter of discussion, when you use something for delivering into an specific audencie, it should be call that way because that is the main intention.

Like I said, I’m a fan of the games. My problem isn’t with the sexism, its the fact the fact that the developers were talking about stepping back from the raging plastic doll fan service, but seem to have gone back on that intent. Why did they bother stating it in the first place?

It’s not exactly degrading to women, they’re not being portrayed as weak or anything like that. They’re simply fighters with big boobs. Like Orbit said, this is no more offensive than an issue of Playboy.

I think it’s funny that people complain a lot when something contains attractive women. Yet… who is the only character in the series who is even topless? I’ll give you a hint: he’s even in the screenshot for this article…

If you’re gonna go down that road, then please argue for both female AND male characters to be chubby and covered up. Nothing questionable at all about that of course…
And besides breasts being sexist, we also know that showing athletic people in media provides an unhealthy body image. Roseanne Barr 30 years ago in a burqa – I assume THAT would be healthy and the epitome of equality?

But… despite all that, I still find the female characters in DoA too extreme and I think that Hayashi didn’t dodge the question but answer it in a very unfortunate way…

It’s sad that the comments on here betray the privilege of some heterosexual males in their thinking. This game isn’t sexist because women are portrayed as athletic or muscular, nor even that it goes by the Western (narrow-minded) preference that bigger breasts are better. What’s sexist is the portrayal of the female characters, if they aren’t overtly sexual in personality, they have poses which are not so subtlety sexual in nature; the definite focus on heaving, bouncing, undulating breasts is sexist, and showcases that these characters were developed not as equal persons as the male characters but objects. The DLC that have the female characters in “bunny” bikinis further suggests that this game is for stunted man-children, rather than a game welcoming a diverse audience. This sexism only fuels the stereotype that gamers are basement-dwellers who need an artificial stimulus for their socially undeveloped lives. The game is a fun fighter, but if it were truly an equal campy, sexy fighting game, then have the men have costume choices of fetish gear as well, chest harnesses, for example, and zippered thongs. Design them with full, pouty lips, and when they lose, their heads are thrown back, heavy sighs, maybe a moan, with sweat glistening as it pours down their face, their heaving chest. Have the male characters have erect nipples, have them in ripped jeans that have holes in their back pocket for some @$$ to be shown. Have at least one male character who struts into the bar, flex his muscles, showcase his @$$ or even a bulge as he talks, and then you’d maybe start having equality. To put it more simply, having a character depicted in an idealized way is not equal to an objectified way. In addition, If you are comfortable with your sexuality but you still aren’t keen on a male character depicted in such a sexualized way to tell a good story or be a cool character, then try to imagine women who are constantly fighting to be treated as equal human beings as men – it’s the 21st Century yet women are still being paid less in some jobs than the men employed; where they are still told that they are less deserving of respect than men, are even “honour” killed when they stand up for themselves in some places – then try to imagine being a gamer who is female, and they want to play a good fighter with good characters but they have to see this unnecessary treatment of female characters in this game! Of comments such as some that appear from fellow gamers who belittle their concern, their opinion, their feelings. It doesn’t matter if a female gamer playing this game was gay – it’s not about a character being sexy, it’s about being depicted as a sexual object first and foremost, designed specifically in a way to try to promote arousal for some heterosexual males, instead of simply designing a great character who can kick @$$ and have some depth. Again, some female gamers, not to mention some male players, could probably be more forgiving of the “other” nature of DOA if all characters had sex “tattooed” on their forehead, but especially after the Dev’s acknowledged the content and mentioned that aspect would be played down, vocal disappointment and being upset is only natural. If you can’t understand that, then at least try to acknowledge that this game causes frustration, hurt, and indignation to some, when it doesn’t have to, and try to acknowledge that fellow gamers feel disrespected, and in a community that should be inclusive and diverse, which still suffers disrespect by stereotyping and small-mindedness from “outsiders,” then all members should be more considerate of their fellow gamer, no matter the gender.

@43 Male sexuality and female sexuality are entirely different things. The men are just as oversexualised in this series as they women are.
