Epic Games forms ex-Amalur staff into Impossible Studios

Epic Games has announced that they’ve formed Impossible Studios, a new development studio partly composed of former employees of the now-defunct Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning dev Big Huge Games.

Impossible’s first project will be Infinity Blade: Dungeons, the next installment in the popular action-RPG series, for iOS.

“Epic Games has truly embraced this stellar collection of developers who were displaced by the closing of Big Huge Games,” said Impossible’s new studio director Sean Dunn. “They have looked after us with complete care, giving us all the tools and resources we need to make a lot of gamers happy.”

“We were so glad we could help keep this great team together, and we’re lucky to have them,” added Epic Games boss Mike Capps.

“At the time, I said that finding a full team of superstars was ‘impossible’ and apparently the name stuck! Pairing the imagination and experience of Impossible with Epic’s technology, IP and resources makes for a business greater than the sum of its parts.”

    Good, now i hope they can purchase back the Amalur franchise from Rode Island and make the second game, but chances are pretty slim i suppose.

    Epic already said no to Amalaur sequel. Plus the cost of paying that back is not worth it especially since it doesn’t have a big enough fanbase to support the cost(supposedly 20 million). Their better off putting their work in other things.

    #3 well it sold decent numbers,i think it will be not that risk, especially if the game was half way done, like some reports indicated, i do not see it as a bad business call, i think theres worst calls like the gears first person shooter IMHO.

    Sorry but 20 million or more(RI will want to recoup as much as possible which can be up to 70 million) is too much in cost for an IP that has little to no following. As I said EPic already said no and that they have other plans for the new studio.

    It’s nice to see devs looking out for each other.

    I’d love an Amalur sequel too as the first one was great fun, but it really is unlikely.

    Hope they use Impossible to make an RPG for next-gen systems. Because Amaulr had a lot of good ideas (mainly the combat), wrapped in a world with uninteresting fiction and though a very colorful pallete, an art style that was kinda bland.
