EA, Zynga and Microsoft part of anti-DOMA coalition
EA is the latest of some 40 major US companies and organisations throwing their weight behind an amicus brief to challenge the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA). At least two other gaming companies are on board – Zynga and Microsoft – but EA’s public announcement has caught the attention of gamers this morning. The publisher cites business disruptions caused by unequal and possibly unconstitutional portions of DOMA, but the rainbow flag the company is sporting along with its recognised corporate stance for LGBT equality are winning a few hearts.
Thanks, Kotaku.

Stupid in the first place. I think religions have the right to not marry any gay couple, it’s apparently part of their fanatic beliefs that those people are evil. But who says that a marriage has to be religious? If that were the case, then atheist would not have been allowed to get married either. Pfft, worried about ‘tainting’ a word, get over yourself, there have been far more vile acts caused in the name of religion than gays.

@1 Nobody is forcing churches to marry gay people. Priests will be allowed to turn down doing such ceremonies if they wish. This is about the *legal* marriage of same sex people, which should be a basic human right in every state by now.

@1 I think your response just shows how many do not understand equal marriage at all. As Ireland Michael says, Churches are not being forced to do anything – they are just upset because allowing gays to marry would be evil – but allowing ‘straight’ couples has worked so well thus far?
Times have changed and people should be allowed to do what they want within the law of course and maybe the church should focus more on the amount of Gary Glitters running around touching young boys and girls instead of something so trival as equal marriage.
Its good to see large game companies support this – its just a shame they dont allow this behaviour in their games (SWTOR).

@2, That was kinda my point, religion is the sole reason gays cannot get married, yet not everybody has to be married under a church. Many European countries, Australia, Canada & I think several U.S. states either allow gay marriage or some legally equivalent form, wouldn’t it be simpler to allow them to marry? Screw religious tolerance, no one’s forcing priests to marry gay couples & I think it would be wrong to force them, but they shouldn’t have the right to deny gays a basic human right simply because they think its wrong.

Gay and lesbian relationships are coming to SWTOR. Don’t know when though…
