CDP RED has announced The Witcher and The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings has sold over 4 million copies of both games. That is awesome news.

“I’m still amazed with the result we have achieved with The Witcher franchise,” said Adam Badowski, head of CD Projekt RED studio. “Many gamers on many platforms have been drawn to the vivid and complex world we have created. In the gaming world summer means a lot of great, hot deals. So if you still don’t own the game look out for both retail and digital special offers.

“The Witcher and The Witcher 2 are great, robust RPGs, that every true gamer should own.”

I agree one million percent with that last statement.

The Witcher 2 will be released later this year on Mac, and will land in Japan for Xbox 360 on August 23.

Still deserves twice that, but I’m glad they didn’t fall flat on their face.

I hope the 4 millions is enough to create a sequel. IMO The Witcher 2 was the best RPG of 2011!

I bet TW2 will have just as long a tail as the first game did in terms of sales (TW1 sold 400k copies last year, at $5-10 a pop but still), I wouldn’t be surprised if they announced the franchise had topped 8 million by the time TW3 is out for a year or two.

In hindsight, if CDP was owned by Activision, they would have gutted the company by now because it sold under expectations :P

people obviously know how to pirate games for the pc more than they know how to mod their xbox or ps3 themselves without it costing them money lol

@4 That literally made a chill run down my spine :P

And if it had been owned by EA they’d had to dumb everything down and make it a shooter based on Lord of the Rings or something.

@7 Yeah, they reported close to 2 million sold a year after the PC release, and the month after the 360 release.

    That’s definitely not bad.

Good game, but great? Atmospheric, but amazing? Better than Bethesda, but’re all shellshocked. Even the music from Chrono Trigger gives me bigger goosebumps.

Wait! Just 4? So if they sold like 1.5 million copies of W1 and 2 million of W2 on the PC then that means that they only sold 500.000 on the Xbox. So either piracy is not that high on the PC or console people clearly can’t handle this game. And to think that W2 was pretty light..
