EVE players gain 5 trillion ISK using faction warfare exploit
A group of five EVE Online players figured out how to manipulate the new reward system for faction warfare in the Inferno expansion, thus generating five trillion ISK – which amounts to $175,000 in real world, US dollars.

The new mechanic introduced with the Inferno expansion, provides loyalty points based on the value of a destroyed enemy ship and its cargo.
A bug, which rewarded players for both the destroyed and surviving cargo, was abused by the group by .
The points were cashed out into items for sale on the market, this making the players 5 trillion ISK richer.
CCP has not labeled this as an exploit yet, but it is still investigating it now that the fix has been applied.

Interesting but I have several question as an EVE noob. Where does the $175,000 come from? How could ISK turn to real money? How does EVE work?

@1 You get the real money from selling gold to players, as with any other MMO, although in Eve it is allowed, as you can actually buy game time with in game currency, thus making it a “legal” RL -> In Game cash conversion.

Looks like ccp took down both pages to prevent others from using this exploit. Although it is definitely interesting.
Cant wait for dust 514.

Thanks.
I’d always been fascinated by stories and drama surrounding EVE online and this is certainly one of the more interesting ones I’ve seen.
