Microsoft patents biometrics-sensing control pad
A Microsoft patent filed in 2009 but granted this week shows a pretty neat controller idea. Sensors on the body of the control pad measure various uniquely identifying features, like the shape of the fingers and firmness of grip, to crete a signature for each user. Imagine picking up the pad and being logged into your Xbox 360 profile – and even better, keeping your save-file-deleting siblings out. Looks neat. Probably won’t happen.
Thanks, Polygon.

Maybe not this next coming generation of consoles, but maybe the next? I think this would be a cool idea because I don’t want people messing with my save files either.

Great idea. Would be extremely handy, and would be basically impossible to fake. Being able to log in to a profile just by holding the pad seems like the optimal scenario to me.

As part of a 4 man Friday night sofa gaming crew with one inverse Y axis freak among us, this could be a godsend!
