El Shaddai tease is for social spin-off

Tuesday, 3rd April 2012 08:21 GMT By Johnny Cullen

The teaser that appeared a while back that suggested a sequel for cult classic El Shaddai was on its way is, in fact, for a social spin-off game called El Shaddai Social Battle. The game sees you, according to GameSpot, “build a party of up to three angels to partake in quests to climb up to the top of a tower, mostly through turn-based conflict.” Players are encouraged to team with other angels to fight against those guarding the tower.

The game will arrive on Japanese social platform Gree.

Word “LAME” found another new meaning.

Of course many did say it’s probably a social crapfest but after the way they teased something about El Shaddai, I was hoping for something better. Even a 3DS or Vita port would have been better than this.

    Cult classic? Really?

Why not? It’s an insanely great looking game with decent but repetitive combat and many other good/bad quirks that were destined for a cult status.

@3: Sorry, but so far i haven’t seen any cult following.

Much like Ico just after it was released, I got a high level of critical acclaim, it sold like shit and then those that have played it talk quietly about it in the corner.

Which is pretty much what I think a cult classic game is more or less. It does have a pretty dedicated fanbase pouring over some of the more abstract visuals and terms even though for the most part they mean nothing apart from looking pretty.
