Ninja Gaiden 3 reviews split opinion, get rounded up
Reviews of Tecmo Koei’s Ninja Gaiden 3 have just gone live, and the scores range from a 3 right up to an 8. The game has clearly polarized the press.

IGN really didn’t have much love for the title, calling it “one of the worst games the action genre has yet suffered” while the guys at OXM UK say it has a “rock-solid combat system.”
Ninja Gaiden 3 marks the first outing for bloodthirsty ninja Ryu Hayabusa without his creator Tomonobu Itagaki at the helm. After 16 years he and Tecmo Koei did not part on amicable terms, and he dragged key members of the Ninja Gaiden team with him to new start-up Valhalla Game Studios.
Check out the scores below, and if you have any to add whack them in the comments and I’ll add them in.

IGN wants traffic!!!!!!! – Jeez, Its plain and simple. Majority of the big “douche” websites operate on a “TABLOID” business model. But seriously, who in their right mind still visits IGN? I got two words – Chris Roper.
Enuff said.

Terrible! Really. I cannot understand what has happened to what was once a reliable site for gaming news, previews and reviews (IGN, just in case). I can understand that different folks can have different perspectives but a collective opinion can be well regarded in case of a review which largely affects the sales of a title.
3 is such a measly score by any means. I mean they rewarded a 4.5 for I Am Alive and Silent Hill: Downpour over the last 2 weeks. I’ve been playing Downpour and it is by no means sub-standard that deserves such a lowly score.
I am halfway through of losing my trust in IGN!

Wow… 3 from IGN? I was really pessimistic about this game but not 3/10 pessimistic. Of course, I haven’t read the article or played the game yet so maybe it’s not my place to judge.

i think the low score is due the lack of bouncy boobs, it would score higher if itakagi was part of the development team IMHO.
p.s this will cement his vision, bouncing boobs sells and gives good scores 8D

@9 I don’t think you should trust IGN in the first place

The review isn’t especially well written, and the score doesn’t really make sense.
It’s one of the worst action games in history… But it’s 3/10? So it’s obviously one of the best worst action games ever.
Still, it’s nice to see someone make up their mind based on something other than the brandname and how flashy the graphics look.
@13 Because… They’re capable of distinguishing between a game for infants and an action game?
That makes sense. They should be disqualifying games with babies on the cover before they even play them. Like real gamers.
Oh. Dear…

Goddamit, this is both so interesting and so pathetic
I can’t believe I’m this curious to see the “number” from GameSpot and few other big sites.
I just hope it’s not another Godhand. That game was AWESOME and yet IGN totally butchered it.

no weapons and nenmpo upgrade
lame story
lame enemy and bosses
1000 solders shooting you with Bazooka at the same time ?
and most of all..he movement are very hard and don’t feel like NG game anymore

Was a massive NG fan but I’ll be passing on this one. They’ve really gone in the wrong direction (for me) with it.

I recommend the Videogamer review. Well written (same can’t be said for most of the others) and comprehensive.

@16, 20 I didn’t play God Hand, but even if it appeals to most people, it doesn’t mean it’ll appeal to everyone.
If it’s slammed based on misunderstandings or preconceptions, then that’s not fair. But a game appealing to most people doesn’t mean it’s going to appeal to everyone.
Usually the most interesting discussions I have with my friends are based on the games we don’t agree on. I feel the same way reading criticism. I like to see why people dislike the games I like.

Gamefly is sending me the game. I’ll probably get it Wednesday. I’ve beaten two versions of of the original (Black and Sigma) as well as the XBOX version of NG2, which was also heavily criticized. I never though the criticism was fair. It reminded me of critics who said Jak II was too hard. Jak II was not too hard. It just wasn’t walk in the park. You had to play with actual skill to beat it.
That’s how NG2 was. I thought it a great game, personally. From what I’ve read, the new game sounds like fun but it also sounds like it’s been dumbed down a lot. I’m more excited about that “guys in overcoats wielding guns and swords” game that Itagaki is working on. I enjoyed Metroid: Other M up to a point, but I don’t think Team Ninja can ever be what it was without Tomonobu Itagaki. He can come off as an utter goon in interviews but his Ninja Gaiden games were a bright moment in gaming, the likes of which we really haven’t seen. If you appreciate a hard game, these are pretty much top of the line.
If you’re like me, and you’re a rabid fan of the first two games (and the original NES games) as well as Demon’s Souls & Dark Souls, then you know this game can never offer the experience of the original. I’m seriously thinking of giving the original two games a replaythough. They really are that good.
Getting to hack limbs in the XBOX version of NG2 was awesome, as was the New Game Plus mode. I can’t say I’m not looking forward to the new game, despite the god awful IGN review. But I’m glad I’m didn’t shell out $60 on it.
