Darkstalkers trademark registered by Capcom Japan

Things just went north: Capcom Japan has registered a Darkstalkers trademark.

The filing was discovered by Siliconera.

This is no doubt going to send Darkstalkers fans into a frenzy, even though there hasn’t been a new entry in the property since 2004: the last game was Darkstalkers Chronicle for PSP.

Publisher fighting boss Yoshinori Ono has been pushing for a new game in the series for a while, with Capcom not signing off until there’s enough interest.

At ComicCon last year, Ono professed at a Street Fighter x Tekken panel that “Darkstalkers are not dead”.

Capcom isn’t going to trademark something for nothing. Right?
