Jagex’s majority stake sold to US venture firm

A US venture firm has bough a 55%t controlling majority share in Jagex, increasing its stake by a further 20%.

Insight Venture Partners bought the controlling stake as of papers filled on Decemeber 23 at Companies House, as reported by Develop, with £2.5 miillion in expenses passed off for the deal

It also suggest that company co-founder Andrew Gower has sold his stake in the company to Insight.

Jagex has said it’ll not comment on the takeover.

The studio is currently working on a Transformers MMO, as well as continued support on Runescape.

Andrew gower sold ALL his shares (around 33%) for £75m to now majority holders Insight. That values them at around £220-250m.

He’s started a new company (actually started a long time ago now) called Fen Research, which he and current Jagex CEO Mark Gerhard are Directors. Jagex also owns 10% of his new venture.
