Skyrim mod brings online play to the PC

GameFront is reporting on a new in-development mod for the PC that would bring cooperative and online play to Skyrim. The mod will reportedly allow players to quest together, trade items, and chat with other players worldwide.

There’s no word yet on exactly how it works since the mod is still in production, however a video was released that you can view after the break. The video is extremely rough, but it does show basic character models playing and moving around together in Whiterun (though without animation.)

I remember someone on this site telling me it’d be impossible, gotta love the ingenious modding community.

@2 – Not technically impossible, but I would imagine this would break quests.

@3, Of course it isn’t, it’d just be a hard task & SHOULD have been put in during the development process, there are countless ways they could have implemented multiplayer without taking anything away from the single player story.

given there are numerous occasions where guest characters accompany you, it’s plausible they tried to get co-op functionality in but couldn’t do it in time for launch

It started out looking like the First International Meeting of the Nordic Man Diaper Association.

Weirder looking things have happened to me playing the unmodded version on the 360!

Funniest yesterday was a member of the blades (can’t remember her name) was trying to tell me an emotional story about the history of her clan. As she was doing this, all I could concentrate on was a Wooly mammoth trying to climb a huge pine tree behind her.

He was really going at it when suddenly, it shot about 1000 feet in the air before crashing down behind her and dying!

I still don’t know her backstory! :D

I am glad that Elder scrolls is a single player game, There are so many multiplayer titles, its great that some developers still make epic single player games. If gamers want multiplayer they should check out Two worlds 2, its a good game.

@2

Yes someone made a way for two players to get together but this is just utilizing the companion function, it doesn’t tie in the two players playing and all the other variables and this mod will probably become something like Torchlight modders were doing or the Mafia 2 one. It will get to a point and they will realize how much work will need to be put in for little to no return.

What is impressive?

Elder Scrolls Morrowind had Mod with multiplayer before. Congratulations! You discovered something new here. Lol

If i remember correctly, in Morrowind you could complete quests together without any lag. the only problem was to connect, but once you got it right you could play it with your friend.

PS: I guarantee you next year that mod that these guys are doing will work without any lags and issues.

@8, it’s a well known bug. Mammoths flying
