SCEE boss: PS3 to aim at “younger demographic”
Newly-installed SCEE head Jim Ryan has said the firm is to start pushing PlayStation 3 towards a “younger” audience.

In an interview with OPM UK, Ryan made it clear the core gamer won’t be affected, however.
“I think you’ll see us taking the console more towards a slightly younger demographic. More family market. The core gamer will absolutely not be neglected,” he said.
“There’s going to be tons of great stuff for the core gamer but from our own studio, third parties there’s some quite interesting stuff happening in a number of areas which would allow us to open up a market that we accessed pretty successfully on both PS1 and PS3 but haven’t yet got to on PS3.”
Ryan said he was also hopeful of pushing more PS3s onto consumers, having reduced the price to £199 at gamescom back in August.
“If you look back at the history on PS1, PS2 the vast majority of the business that we did on both those platforms was done at the sub £129 price points. Now we’ve only got to £199 in the UK a couple of month back so you can see there’s still a lot of PS3’s potentially to be sold.”

@3, more like they want to grab the attention of the younger audience, make them hardcore fans then as they grow up they’ll buy their consoles

Erthazus, you were born a sad person and you will die a sad person.
Seriously, do you not have an “Off” button?

They already have lots of exclusive T and E rated games that DON’T sell as much as Microsoft’s M rated exclusives. Yeah, more E and T rated games are the way. I guess they don’t see how COD, Skyrim, Saints Row, Assassin’s Creed and all other current HD best sellers are M rated.

I think Sony is far too optimistic about this, and over-estimating what will actually happen. The PS3 is not the PS1 or 2, and has very little US/UK momentum.

@8 sorry but Erth is right, I personally played my console more when i was a kid, now i’m adult PC gaming is way more maturer and better in many ways, the only reason I bought a PS3 is because some of the first party titles were awesome, back in PS1/2 days I didn’t know anything better, I couldn’t afford a PC.

Well, if that’s how the two of you play, then it must apply to everyone.

@14, exactly. The same reason why i bought PS3. For the first party titles and some multiplatform console games that i can’t play on the PC.
Everything else is better on the PC and environment and community is much stronger and maturer.
when i played Killzone or Uncharted, Red Dead redemption multiplayer.. gosh.. community consisted of whiny children that scream all the time with nicknames like: PwNMAX2007

The difference between, say, playing MW3 on Xbox or playing it on PC is that you get a headset with every Xbox, while on PC you only get one if you want, so you get to hear a lot more annoying kids on Xbox because it’s just easier and faster to scream profanities into a microphone than it is to type it on a keyboard.
Believe me, there are tons of kids playing on PC too, they’re just not as obvious.

@18: Experienced that last week while playing MW3. The difference here is that when the kid started talking, everybody told him to shut the fuck up. And he did. He knew his place.

@23 you buy your cheap bicycle, then when your wheels or handle bar comes off you will fall off and die. Sorry but bicycles aren’t cheap unless you have a death wish.
