DICE details design ideas behind BF3's Back to Karkand expansion pack

Maps featured in Battlefield 3's Back to Karkand DLC will apparently become "part of the same rotation as the base maps" once available, according to a statement given to Joystiq.

No word from EA just yet on whether future maps will follow the same route, as DICE is currently focused on Karkand at the moment.

In the meantime, to get you ready for December's DLC, DICE has updated the Battleblog with a look at how the designers wanted returning players to "get the sense that these are cool new maps, and then suddenly realize they know them by heart."

Lead designer Niklas Fegraeus said the feeling of the maps should be new despite the layout being the "same as before."

Upon release, Back to Karkand will be free for those who pre-ordered the BF3 and cost £11.99 f/$14.99/1200 MSP for those who didn't.
