Modern Warfare 3 hits 90 on MetaCritic – all the scores

Following the big worldwide launch last night, reviews for Modern Warfare 3 have appeared online following the lifting of an embargo this morning, with Meta scores hitting 90. Catch the reaction below the break.

The Xbox 360 version has hit 90, while the PS3 version has reached 88. No score yet for the PC version due to a worrying lack of reviews.

Response so far seems to be between eights and nines, but the consensus seems to be that it is a still a very action-packed title.

All the scores so far are below. If you want us to add one, you know the drill:

Modern Warfare 3 is out now for 360, PS3 and PC.

Predictable score, based on the MP alone, I would of rated MW2 SP a 6/10.

Meanwhile the user reviews in metacritic shows how bad scoring review system can be!

http://www.metacritic.com/game/xbox-360/call-of-duty-modern-warfare-3/user-reviews

Just like the review from some mainstream site itself that write how Modern Warfare never change from time to time, but yet, they still rated it quite high with many lame subjective excuses (like this is what you expect from MW, this is what MW3 is, this is what many people/fans always wanted, this is their success formula, they are on the different side with BF 3, etc).A.k.a they praised and scored MW 3 high for being the same and another game that brings innovation being judged badly because its too ambitious (red orchestra 2, payday the heist, etc)!

Sad, very sad! Meanwhile, every nice shooter like Crysis 1, Deus Ex, etc. only sold in a small fraction of this annual DLC!

@16: Right. People giving the game a 0 out of 10. Totally not trolling or anything.

Thats why scoring review system are broken, without any valid reason some user give it a 0, 3 , or 4 . Meanwhile, mainstream review site just tend to give it a 8, 9 or 10 that loose any connection with what they’ve been written before!

Uncharted 3 Eurogamer review being an example for this! By read it’s review I would thought its gonna be 6 out of 10 because its crytal clear read that the writers seems pretty annoyed by it flaws! But, magically an 8 appears at the bottom of the article! That’s magic!

Reviewer should read this before reviewing their game http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/11/04/review-score-controversies-a-guide/

I’ve decided to get this on PS3.

PSN gives me much better connections than XBL here in the Middle East.

I was playing CoD4 (my only PS3 game) this morning, and getting better connections than I’ve ever gotten with either BO or MW2 since I’ve been here.

It looks like the Call of Duty: Elite service took a right royal shafting earlier, with the service apparently beset by problems:

“In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into an emotional response or of otherwise disrupting normal on-topic discussion.”

I think “*falls asleep*” could qualify unless you’re going to be really anal about the reasons why you would say it in the first place. ;)

#28

Ireland Michael

@26 The service is broken! It’s not working as intended! Sledgehammer can’t do their job right! They’re a bunch of hacks who can’t even get a game running properly for launch! It should have worked PERFECTLY! YOU DAMN NOOB DEVELOPERS! IT SHOULD JUST MAGICALLY WORK! SERVERS JUST WORK!

…am I doinv this right? Not enough ignorance? Does it maybe need more exclamation points? Worse spelling Help me out here!

@27 “with the primary intent”

See, there you go.

If I were posting my messages with the deliberate intent of getting a rise out of people, it would be an accurate choice of works. But I’m not. I’m simply expressing my opinion of the franchise.

Whether you find it repetitive or not doesn’t change that fact. How people choose to respond to my posts is entirely their own prerogative.

Once the “Glee” factor wears off or thins, then you will start to get “real” peoples opinions. Of course I expect Hard Core, Die Hard COD fans to stand firm on their scores.

The rest will tend to gravitate towards a true score over time.

Right now what I am hearing is that Activision is really going balls out trying to get your money with this game. Elite Memberships, all the Licensed crap out there. You could walk in a store and spend $500 to $1000 for all the COD3 Crap they are pushing!

Like anything, when you first get something new you are excited, till you get it home, wash off the make-up and see the cracks and imperfections, that’s when the true answer comes, “Do you still really think so highly of the game?”

And I look forward to that time……Buy the game because you want to, not because all your friends are and your caught up in the hype!

Hurrah! Now maybe all the lone wolf CoD players with little understanding of the word “teamwork” will bugger off, leaving actual BF vets who know the importance of working as a team to arm and disarm M-COMs rather than just trying to buff their K/D ratio.

#33

Ireland Michael
08/11/11, 10:38 am

@32 It won’t happen instantly, but you will see them gravitate eventually. It may also take a while for the stragglers to move on as well, but it’ll happen.

I’ll give it two or three months at least before the quality of matches really starts pushing it way back up to the standard of Bad Company 2′s matches, later in its cycle.

#34

G1GAHURTZ

@32:

If they’re “BF vets”, why don’t they have their own team by now?

#35

Ireland Michael

@34 I always play in squads with personal friends of mine who I’ve enjoyed the franchise with for years. We’re consistently the Ace Squad on almost every match we play, and we almost always win, unless we get stuck on a team with some really bad players while the opposing team has really strong ones, since it’s all about teamwork.

I personally rarelt play the games unless it’s with those group of friends, because I find nothing more tiresome than playing it with people unwilling or unable to communicate basic teamwork strategies.

I think “veterans” is probably a stronger word than what he’s trying to get at. “People who actually know how to fucking play the game” would probably be a more accurate descriptor.

@28 , Yes, that is true to a point. But if your only opinion of a franchise is negative, and you knowingly dislike it, then stating that opinion without any margin for debate could quite easily be considered as trolling. If people are responding to you because they are offended, then clearly something about your comment was inflammatory.

If I walked into an art gallery, knowing I hate art, and then said to the nearest group of art lovers “you know what, everything in here is absolute shit,” and then walked out. I think it would be quite a stretch to claim I am merely stating my opinion and quite ignorant to think I’m not going to provoke people.

@36 If Call of Duty turns around tomorrow and updates its engine and design to create a really deep, immersive and engaging experience that promotes diversity, teamwork and original design, while evolving its gameplay with significant new advances that expands heavily on what has come before… I will be the first person on the rooftops championing its name.

The misguided assumption from many people here that I simply “hate the franchise” is a false one. I simply don’t like what it’s become – iterative yearly releases of the *exact* same formula, over, and over… and over… and over… and over again.

#38

viralshag
08/11/11, 11:09 am

@37, if it did all of those things we would simply have another Battlefield. Diversity is what what makes gaming great. Wanting all games to be the same experience would make gaming a very boring hobby.

#40

viralshag

@39, It also doesn’t need any of what you mentioned in #37 to be good. The game is what it is. If you dislike it for that, I think it’s pointless wanting it to be something completely different.

I’m mainly a team deathmatch kinda guy. I like to lone wolf it, so CoD Is a good fit. Been playing MW3 for a few hours & the only negative I’ve got, is the sound fx are a little weak…

BF3 has spoilt me there :/

@40 that is true but its shame that for me MW3 is weakest cod. They didn’t add anything new.Just look every other cod before add lot of new stuff and this add smallest thing to the table and still is going to sell which is shame.

You always troll when it comes to call of duty Mikey boy. It’s not my favourite franchise either but insinuating battlefield 3 is such a leap over previous titles in the series is pushing it a bit.

Battlefield 3 feels very much like bad company 3 to me, especially on consoles. And remember, I’m sure we’ll see bad company 3 next year, dice and EA will want a yearly release just as much as acti… That’s not even mentioning medal of honour.

On topic, does this support 3D the same as BLack Ops out of curiosity?

@45:

I saw an interview with one of the devs (can’t remember who), and iirc, he said that it wouldn’t.

Don’t quote me on that, though. It’s worth googling just to make sure. Or just asking someone who has it to check the back of the box…
