Rumour – Blizzard lays off Titan designer
Whispers suggest the primary designer behind Blizzard’s mysterious new project has been left the company.
Massively thanks “Steve” for a report that John Staats has left Blizzard, apparently the victim of lay offs.
The designer’s public LinkedIn profile still lists him as a senior level designer at Blizzard. Staats has been with Blizzard for more than ten years, and is hailed by World of Warcraft fans as one of the MMORPG’s finest designers.
He is reportedly the chief creative behind Project Titan, a new title suspected to be an MMO in the same vein as World of Warcraft, but based on a different IP.
Speculation is yet to supply a compelling explanation for the rumoured job cut.

Given Blizzards reputation of always making some of the best games in the world in their respective genres, it doesn’t surprise me too much. If he was starting to slack, cut him loose, maintain the high quality. If it is actually the reason, i hope other companies learn from this.

Layoffs are one thing, but sacking the lead creative for a project means that its either in big trouble, or stone dead.
Or well…. Sacking the actual lead. I guess creative means hes the arts guy.

Blizzard is losing it’s touch…the style of WoW has gone from epic to shit in the expansions.
And with the new “Kung Fu Panda” expansion things are realy going straight down the shitters.
The king is dead long live the king, Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic.
