A new report suggests a large number of self-identified gamers don’t buy games, preferring to share with friends and family.
A study conducted by research firm Newzoo, as reported by Gamespot, claims that just 44% of the 82 million US residents who play games actually make purchases.
85% of those who purchase games have bought second-hand games. Of these, 25% said at least half their regular spend is on used games, and on average, gamers devote 23% to the trade in market.
On the bright side for publishers, the reports predicted DLC spend will hit $960 million this year in the US alone, topping out at $1.75 billion when added to European figures.
