Report – Halo movie planned for 2012, Spielberg involved

Thursday, 6th October 2011 10:24 GMT By Johnny Cullen

A Halo movie with the involvement of Steven Spielberg is set for a release in 2012, according to a French press kit for the latest Halo book, Cryptum,

As scanned by Halo.fr and translated by HBO (via GAF), the movie is set to be coming from Dreamworks, the company Spielberg helped set up in 1994.

The press pack reads: “A film adaptation is set in 2012. It will be conducted jointly by two heavyweights of American cinema: Steven Spielberg and Dreamworks.”

This isn’t the first time Dreamworks and Spielberg have been mentioned together in regards to a Halo film. Last time it was brought up was back in October last year.

A Halo movie has been on and off since it was first announced in 2006. Initially, Peter Jackson, Enslaved and 28 Days Later writer Alex Garland and District 9 director Neill Blomkamp were all tied to the movie.

Really, there’s only one man to go for to play a characterless, stiff, armoured, personality-vacuum like Master Chief.

Hayden Christensen, I’m looking at you. ;)

If they’re smart they’ll set it in the Halo universe, but not use Master Chief as the main character. Just saves you allot of trouble and gives you room to tell your own story that fitts the movie medium.

Assuming this’ll ever get off the ground. What’s changed since the last time they tried this?

#7 Sorry but i disagree big time, a halo movie without master chief, is like a predator movie without the predator IMHO

I’m still mourning the movie that Halo could have been if Jackson, Blomkamp and Garland had made it. They’ll probably get someone like Michael Bay for this and he will hire a model to play Cortana.

So a Halo movie is going to go through pre-production, planning, casting, filming and post production and release, all in a year. Get Real.
