Analyst predicts Titan unveil for Blizzcon
M2 Research analyst Billy Pidgeon has predicted that Blizzard will left the wraps off its next-gen MMO Titan at Blizzcon next month, despite previous claims from the company it wouldn’t be announced for another year at least.
“If they are holding any juicy details, it’s going to be announced at Blizzcon,” he told VentureBeat. “The big news is probably going to be a Diablo 3 date and a possible new announcement about one or more new properties.”
Not everyone is in agreement that an announcement will take place at Anaheim next month, although one person reckons Blizzard might do something else to counter the now-confirmed December launch of Star Wars: The Old Republic from EA and BioWare.
“I’d want (The Old Republic) to spend something big, drop some cash, and then run right over them and trump marketing dollars with PR,” said AIAS board member Zack Karlsson.
Karlsson also outlined the cons of announcing something as big as Titan, saying that other big news from the event – such as a specific Diablo III date, a timeline for StarCraft II: Heart of the Swarm or a new World of Warcraft expansion – would be trumped by the announcement.
“The problem with something that large at Blizzcon is all their other news will get lost. And that makes it pointless to have other news, they need a hole in the cycle to drop something like that.”
At last year’s Blizzcon, Blizzard VP Rob Pardon said we shouldn’t expect to see the MMO until next year at least.
Blizzcon takes place from October 21-22 in Anaheim, California.
